Dr. Pamela Schmitz began practicing in Whitby in 1994 with the continuation of the practice of Dr. Neil Murkar, with the guiding philosophy that citizens of all ages in Durham region deserve thorough and comprehensive preventative eye care in a caring, friendly and technologically-advanced environment. With a keen interest in helping children with reading and other cognitive difficulties, Dr. Schmitz is one of the few optometrists conducting visual perceptual testing in Durham. Dr. Schmitz also enjoys assisting seniors with age related visual problems. She provides sight enhancement services, offering assistive devices such as magnifiers, telescopes, and spectacle mounted magnifiers, when vision problems cannot be corrected by regular glasses. Her practice emphasizes the promotion of good health through regular eye examinations using the latest tools for monitoring and diagnosing vision conditions. "When you come to me, I am not just interested in your eye glasses, I'm interested in your overall visual and general well-being", she says. "We go the extra mile to service our patients."

Born and raised in Ottawa, Dr. Schmitz graduated in 1991 with Honours from a Doctor of Optometry program and Honours Bachelor of Science program at the University of Waterloo. She enjoys music, swimming and sailing with her husband and three children, and has been active in Whitby's Rotary Club.

Dr. Pamela Andrews was born in Kincardine, Ontario and raised in Whitby. She first joined our practice as a cooperative education student from Sinclair Secondary School in 1998. Since then she has graduated from the University of Waterloo Bachelors of Science Program with honours, and continued on to the optometry program, graduating in 2006 on the deans honours list. She completed her US externship in Houston, Texas working alongside a glaucoma and cataract specialist.

In Feb 2002 and again in Feb 2007, Dr. Andrews participated in an eye care mission with I Care International, travelling to underdeveloped countries, performing eye examinations and donating glasses to the under privileged. She believes that everyone should be entitled to proper eye care, and continues to help out with missions to third world countries.

Dr. Linda Sujo brings an impressive background in scientific research to her profession as an Optometrist. Prior to becoming an optometrist, Dr. Sujo worked as a research assistant in the area of molecular genetics with the Ontario Cancer Institute and with Allexlix Biopharmaceuticals Inc.

Dr. Sujo's undergraduate studies have been in Biomedical Toxicology at the University of Guelph. She then transferred to the University of Waterloo where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree. During her studies, she completed externships at the Scarborough Low Vision Clinic in Scarborough, Ontario, and at the Eye Foundation of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah.

An outgoing and hardworking person, Dr. Sujo enjoys the practice of optometry because of the opportunity it gives her to help people on a one-to-one basis.

Dr. Ketharini Sivasegaran was born in Colombo Sri Lanka. She completed her undergraduate and Optometric degree from the University of Waterloo, graduating on the Dean's Honour List. During graduation she received the Vistakon Excellence award for providing comprehensive contact lens patient care. As a part of her optometric externship, she gained specialized training in paediatric/geriatric eye examinations, ocular disease and binocular vision disorder management.

Her therapeutic training was completed at the Detroit Veteran's Affair Medical Center where she managed a wide variety of eye disorders such as diabetic/hypertensive retinopathy , ocular trauma, glaucoma, and cataracts and was also awarded with the Staircase Merit award for excellent patient care. Dr. Sivasegaran also has a strong research background where she independently researched and published a paper on corneal irritation from ocular preservatives.

She is passionate about serving the community and has participated in numerous national and international causes where her optometric training can be utilized to provide better eye care for others. She enjoys providing quality eye care in her Whitby community.

Dr. Jeannie Wong was raised in Toronto, ON. She graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry with Dean's Honours distinction, and also holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Waterloo.

During her studies, she trained with glaucoma, cataracts, and retina specialists at Omni Eye Specialists in Baltimore, MD. She also gained invaluable experiences at various private clinics in Toronto, including a Low Vision Clinic in Scarborough. Dr. Wong has also traveled to China to provide vision screening at elementary schools as part of a research study.

Dr. Jeannie Wong is fluent in English and Cantonese. She is currently serving the eye care needs of the communities of Whitby and Scarborough.

During her free time, she enjoys trying out new recipes, playing softball, and spending time with her family and friends.

Dr. Duen Wong attended the University of Toronto for his undergraduate studies then went on to obtain his Doctor of Optometry degree with honours from the University of Waterloo in 2010. Before practicing in Toronto, Dr. Wong spent time working at Jack C. Montgomery Hospital in the United States. There he gained invaluable experience working alongside experts in field regarding the diagnosis and management of various eye conditions including cataracts, macular degeneration, glaucoma and other retinal disorders.

International Optometry is a particular area of interest for Dr. Wong. He took part in a mission trip to Zihuatanejo, Mexico. There he provided eye exams and free eyeglasses to those in need. Dr. Wong plans to continue this work abroad through future missions to South America and Asia.

Dr. Wong strives to provide the very best for his patients through a knowledge of the newest treatment options, using the latest technology and ensuring patients are properly educated regarding the health of their eyes. Whether you are interested in a health assessment, trying new contact lenses or learning more about laser eye surgery, Dr. Wong is here to address your specific eye care needs. He is excited to be in Whitby and enjoys seeing patients of all ages.

Dr. Claudia Lee received her Honours Bachelor of Science as well as her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo. She graduated on the Dean’s Honour’s List, and received the FYidoctors Clinical Leadership Award, the Dr. Stanley Pearle Scholarship, and the Walman Optical Scholarship, all of which are awarded in recognition of leadership, academic achievement, and commitment to community service.

Dr. Lee provides family and pediatric eye care, glasses and contacts, emergency services, and management of eye disease such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and dry eye disease. She is happy to provide pre- and post-op cataract and laser surgery care. Dr. Lee also has a special interest in Binocular Vision and Vision Therapy. She was trained at the Vision Institute of Canada, where she helped children and adults suffering from eye movement and alignment disorders. She is passionate about helping children with learning-related vision problems and visual perceptual difficulties which prevent them from reaching their full potential. Dr. Rahul Joshi completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto, after which he attended the University of Waterloo to obtain his Doctor of Optometry. Along with graduating on the Dean’s Honours List, he received the FYidoctors Clinical Leadership Award and the Canadian Association of Optometrists Award of Merit. These awards recognized his outstanding leadership, academic achievement and commitment to community service.

Dr. Joshi received extensive training working in numerous clinical settings across the country, where he managed many diseases of the eye including glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment and dry eye. Prior to initiating his optometric education, Dr. Joshi was involved in eye care through his research on age-related macular degeneration at the St. Michael’s hospital. Furthermore, he helped carry out many programs to enhance Canadian optometric education and raise awareness for eye care as the president of the Canadian Association of Optometry Students.

Dr. Joshi provides eye care to all ages, which include fitting glasses and contact lenses, emergency services, pre & post-operative eye care, and management of eye disease. He has a special interest in ocular disease, in particular Dry Eye and myopia control. He is fluent in three other languages – Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi.

In his free time, Dr. Joshi loves playing soccer, watching the Toronto Raptors, and enjoys traveling with his family and friends.
